The UK and France have been singled out by a new report from the United Nation's Human Rights Council, which attacks their adoption of new rules that could lead to broadband users being forcibly disconnected from the internet by their ISP.

UK ISP PlusNet has announced its intention to launch a trial of IPv6 based internet address connectivity on the 8th June 2011, which will coincide with the 'World IPv6 Day' event when major internet content providers (e.g. Goole etc.) will offer their services over IPv6 for a 24-hour "test flight".

A UK internet provider, AAISP, has announced that all new customers - both business and consumer - will now receive an IPv6 compatible ISP service and router as standard when they sign-up for a new broadband install.

A new study of 100 IT decision makers from Powernet, a UK based business internet provider (ISP), has discovered that 27% thought that the government is confused about how it will roll out faster broadband and most wanted to keep Net Neutrality (the principal of treating all internet traffic as equal) intact.

Cable ISP Virgin Media has topped the latest monthly study of broadband internet access provider speeds in the UK, while the national average rate declined from 7.150Mbps in April 2011 to 6.970Mbps now.

Cisco has released its latest Visual Networking Index (VNI) forecast for 2011, which predicted that world internet data traffic will jump from 242.4 ExaBytes in 2010 to hit 965.5 ExaBytes in 2015. It also found that the average fixed broadband ISP speed, which stood at 7Mbps (Megabits per second) in 2010, will jump to 28Mbps in 2015; the UK alone will hit 29Mbps in the same year.

The national UK telecoms network, which is operated by BT, is suffering from a number of problems after high winds battered Scotland and Northern England.
