Cibersuite UK has found a way to deliver broadband services around public places, such as hotels, by making use of a buildings existing electrical cables:
Cibersuite is due to complete its first UK Broadband over the Electricity Network (BoEN) service installation in a Birmingham hotel later this week.
However, the service has already been used in Spain and Latin America enabling punters to plug into the service wherever there is an electricity socket.
Those behind the technology say that because it uses a building's existing electricity network to deliver broadband, it eliminates the need to install new telephone cables.BoEN doesn't actually create a broadband connection, it merely spreads an existing one (e.g. ADSL) around the premises.
The technology is not dissimilar to that found in various computer shops already, where home Ethernet systems allow a 2 to 10Mbps connection to be carried around the house via power cables. More @
