Ofcom has released its latest quarterly (Q1-2008)
Telecommunications Market Data Tables (.PDF), which includes a breakdown of total small business and residential broadband connections.
BT Retail's market share has remained unchanged at 26.5%. The figures break down as follows:
- BT Retail xDSL (ADSL) - 4,289,000
- Other xDSL (exc. LLU) - 4,071,000
- VirginMedia (Cable) - 3,502,000
- Other inc. (LLU) - 4,336,000
Other xDSL (non-
LLU) broadband connections appear to have continued their decline, going from 4.29m during Q4-2007 to 4.07m in Q1-2008. Most of that loss has been picked up by cheaper unbundled (
LLU) providers, which increased their share from 3.76m in Q4-2007 to 4.33m at the end of Q1-2008.
It will be interesting to see what the next set of second quarterly results show because the Office of National Statistics (ONS) recently reported a 0.3% decline in new Internet connection for that same period.
