Popular ISP AOL UK has introduced a FREE anti-virus e-mail scanning service for all of its existing customers:
AOL upgrades email with virus scanning and protection service at no extra cost for all AOL members in the UK
AOL has introduced a new email anti-virus service to provide an added level of online security for its two million members in the UK - all at no extra cost.
From this week AOL is automatically scanning every email attachment that members send or receive for viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. AOL members get this valuable upgrade as an additional benefit as part of their existing subscription charge to give them a better online experience.
Unlike some service providers, the email virus scan service does not require members to opt-in or install any software. Instead, all emails are virus scanned centrally on the AOL network when they are sent or received by the member. This also applies to the AOL web mail service.
Karen Thomson, chief executive of AOL UK, said: "This new service gives AOL members added online security at no extra cost and in a customer-friendly way that requires them to do nothing, except continue to enjoy their online experience."
This new service is powered by Network Associates' world-class McAfee® anti-virus technology and research.
Seeing one of the worlds largest ISPs introduce such a feature is an immensely positive move in the war against online infections.
