BT Business has teamed up with
Shareband to launch a new
bonded-ADSL broadband service in Lincolnshire, which allows up to four separate broadband lines to be merged (linked) into a single fast connection. Bonding technology is nothing new, although customers do have to pay for each additional telephone line, which makes the service more the preserve of business users that can afford it.
Dave Hughes, director of wireless broadband for BT, said: "BT has been working with Sharedband Ltd to use their bonded ADSL technology to deliver an affordable broadband product for Lincolnshire businesses. Bonded ADSL technology is well proven and the new BT service is able to deliver a faster broadband connection by aggregating the bandwidth of up to four ADSL lines connected to a customer's premises."
The technology also works with up to 24Mbps ADSL2+ lines as well, which means that in ideal circumstances you could bond four of those together and expect to reach downstream speeds of around 80Mbps.
Service pricing starts at about £20 +vat per month for two bonded broadband lines (£49 setup, 3 month contract, 250GB usage allowance, static IP), though this does not include the usual telephone line rental charges.
