Communications provider
BT Retail UK has released its latest financial results to 30th June 2010, revealing that its broadband ISP subscriber base had increased by +96,000 from 5,131,000 in Q1-2010 to 5,227,000 in Q2. This is a slowdown on Q1 when +123,000 were added.
Elsewhere BT's new 40Mbps
FTTC fibre optic broadband services, which began rolling out in January, can now reach more than 1.5m UK premises. It's understood that 100,000 new premises are being covered each week.
Combined with its 100Mbps
FTTP product,
BT ultimately aims to reach 66% of UK premises by 2015 and at a cost of £2.5bn. The operators
BT Retail (ISP) division also claims that its related
FTTC BT Infinity packages have "
seen order levels accelerate" but failed to include any figures (we will ask for the data).
Ian Livingston, BT's Chief Executive, said:"We have made an acceptable start to the year, delivering improved financial results while investing in the future of the business. In TV we are offering great value premium sports packages and can now compete on a more even playing field.
We hit the first major milestone in our fibre roll out, passing over 1.5m premises, and we are now running at an average rate of around 100,000 premises passed every week. In
BT Global Services we continue to win significant contracts due to our ability to deliver a world class service to our customers.
Despite the challenging environment, these financial results underpin our outlook for the full year."
Elsewhere consumer ARPU increased to £314, up £5 over the previous quarter, principally due to increasing take up of broadband across their customer base; BT’s retail market share was 40%.
UPDATE 8:45amBT have refused to give us their
BT Infinity figures but did say that the
BT Vision
IPTV service had 481k (up 14k in the three months from April to June).
