NYnet, which was formed in March 2007 as a public sector controlled private limited company and completed its high-speed broadband rollout for
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) during June 2010 (
here), has announced a new
Smart Parks project pilot.
The
Smart Parks project, in partnership with
York & North Yorkshire Ltd, will begin with a pilot to connect 100Mbps fibre optic FTTP (
Fibre to the Premise) un-contended broadband to
Sycamore Business Park at Ripon,
Park Farm Courtyard at Castle Howard near Malton and
Middlethorpe Business Park in York.
Castle Howard’s IT Manager, Miles Gaynor, has big plans for the site. Once broadband is established into the
Park Farm Courtyard he plans to beam a wireless connection to the house, caravan park, retail outlets and even concert venue.
Miles Gaynor said:
"Improved broadband provision will make a massive difference to Castle Howard. We are in discussions with NYnet to support its community broadband project to beam a wireless connection out to neighbouring villages allowing residents to ‘piggy back’ on our network, opening up their communication opportunities."
David Cullen, NYnet Chief Executive, added:
"Previous community broadband projects have allowed residents to stay in touch with friends and family, do their weekly shop online and perform other essential tasks such as online banking, paying bills and managing accounts.
We are delighted to be working with the prestigious Castle Howard in the Smart Parks project and we hope that through the partnership we are able to encourage further business parks to consider next generation broadband in their development plans."
It's hoped that the adoption of faster broadband technology will not only meet existing demand but also boost uptake of available space in the parks. We also commend its aim of expanding the network outwards, thus helping to improve domestic internet access provision.
