Computerlinks, a distributor of IT security and Internet technology solutions, has signed a new 3 year contract worth £4.5 million with broadband Satellite ISP Avanti Communications. The deal will see Computerlinks become a major distributor for Avanti's Business Continuity products.

A new study from Reform Scotland, an independent, non-party think tank with its funding coming from individuals, charitable trusts or companies which share its aims, has warned that the UK and Scotland could fall even further behind other countries if a more ambitious plan and investment isn't put into our national broadband ISP infrastructure.

Inmarsat, a UK Satellite broadband ISP and communications operator, has announced the signing of a major new contract with Boeing for the delivery of three state-of-the-art Ka-Band (702HP) satellites. The new additions are capable of offering live television and "super-fast" internet download speeds of up to 50Mbps (Megabits per second) to both ships at sea and airliners.

Competition in the UK consumer broadband Satellite internet access market is hotting-up again today after ISP BeyonDSL announced a new service with download speeds of up to 4Mbps (0.25Mbps uploads) for just £29.99 inc. VAT per month. The package uses ASTRA's (ASTRA2Connect) satellites (23.5E Astra 1E, 1G, 3A) and includes a 2.5GB usage allowance.

European satellite operator Eutelsat has released its latest full year results and revealed that its new KA-SAT Satellite, which will offer download speeds of up to 10Mbps and should become part of their Tooway consumer broadband service in the EU and UK, is officially set to be launched in November this year.

Satellite ISP Tariam says it can help to fill the UK's rural broadband gaps and meet the governments Universal Service Commitment (USC), which aims to make a minimum broadband download speed of 2Mbps available to everybody by 2015. Tariam's boss was speaking in reaction to last week's news that the USC target had slipped from 2012 to 2015.

Satellite ISP Avanti Communications has revealed that the first of its next generation broadband satellites - HYLAS 1, which will offer internet download speeds of up to 8Mbps to anybody in the UK from £25 per month (more price details), has been delayed by 6 weeks from its original late-September 2010 launch.
