The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has estimated that UK ISPs could generate direct revenue of £103m from legal digital music sales by 2013. The study, which was conducted by Ovum, found that such figures would be possible, but only if all of the country’s six largest providers ( Virgin Media , Sky Broadband , BT Retail , O2 , Orange and TalkTalk ) launched bundled digital music services this year.

The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has announced a new national broadband campaign called 'The Final Third First' (FTF). This title refers to approximately one third of the UK population who currently are, for economic or technical reasons, unlikely ever to be able to receive a superfast ISP connection (i.e. more than the governments promised 2Mbps by 2012).

The Government has today launched a new body, Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), which will drive forward the Universal Service Commitment (USC) to deliver "at least" 2Mbps to every household by 2012. It will also manage the spend of its £1bn 'Next Generation Fund' (NGF), which comes from the controversial 50p phone line tax, to deliver next generation broadband to 90% of the country by 2017.

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) has estimated that plans by the UK government, which aims to make a minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps available to everybody in the country by 2012 (i.e. Universal Service Commitment), could be worth £1.4 Billion through additional online sales alone.
