Government Says UK Libraries are Safe from ISP Internet Piracy Law.. Maybe

The UK government’s communications minister, Ed Vaizey MP, has told the Open Rights Group (ORG) that “public intermediaries” (e.g. libraries and education networks) will “not be bound” by Ofcom’s Initial Obligations Code, which requires broadband ISPs to clamp down upon P2P internet copyright infringement (piracy).

The base module price of having your ISP call out a BTOpenreach engineer to investigate and potentially fix a broadband fault (Special Faults Investigation 2) on your ADSL telephone line (i.e. IPstream Connect) will increase from £95 +vat to £125 +vat next month.

The Director of UK ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP), Adrian Kennard, has warned that the recent focus upon improving the country’s broadband ISP speeds risk neglecting the need for more affordable back-haul capacity to support the new generation of superfast internet access services.

iPass Expands Network to 1 Million Premium Global Wi-Fi Hotspots

Global connectivity provider iPass has today announced that its worldwide network of “premium” quality wireless internet hotspots (wifi) has reached the 1 million milestone, which is a massive rise from the 40,000 or so they had at the end of 2007.
