Yorkshire ISP CLANNET Expands Rural Wireless Broadband into Cowesby

The tiny civil parish village of Cowesby (Hambleton) in North Yorkshire UK can now access broadband speeds of up to 25Mbps after community network developer CLANNET Broadband made use of the local St Michael and All Angels Church to expand the coverage of its wireless network. Other villages will also benefit.

The troubled Digital Region (DR) project, which cost over £100m of public money to build and offers an alternative telecoms network to BT that helps 80% of premises in South Yorkshire UK to get superfast broadband services, has announced the loss of another £22m.

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has today ignored threats of legal action from rival mobile operators by allowing T-Mobile and Orange UK (Everything Everywhere) to deploy superfast “4G” Mobile Broadband services over their existing 1800MHz radio spectrum.

BT Doubt Over Uncertain Future for UK OnLive Broadband Video Game Service

ISP BT Retail fears that it might have to “write off our investment” in OnLive’s UK cloud based video gaming service, which allows customers to play the latest PC, XBox 360 and PS3 video games, without owning them directly, by using a live and remotely controlled internet video stream over your broadband connection.
