The communication regulator’s final Telecoms Market Data Tables update for last year has revealed that the United Kingdom ended 2013 with a total of 22,577,000 fixed line residential and small business broadband ISP connections (excludes corporate lines), which is up by +941,000 (4.3%) in the year as ADSL’s existing market share declines.

MS3 Networks has won provisional approval from Ofcom that would grant the operator Code Powers (making street works easier etc.) in order to help expand their independent and ultra-fast Dark Fibre optic broadband ISP network in Hull (East Yorkshire, England), which is already being used by a number of local businesses and competes with KC’s own FTTP deployment.

Virgin Media has announced that a further 6 London Underground Train/Tube Stations will join its related network of public wireless Internet (WiFi) hotspots tomorrow, which raises their total coverage to 137 stations (up from 131 in February 2014). More are also due to be added to the network by the end of this summer.

EE (4GEE) has announced that its “superfast” 4G (LTE at 1800MHz) based Mobile Broadband (4GEE) network has now arrived in a total of 200 cities and towns (12 new additions went live this week), which means that their related network coverage (population) of the United Kingdom has expanded to 72%.

Chelmsford-based fixed wireless access provider FIBREWiFi (Buzcom) has revealed that they’re launching a range of new superfast broadband packages, which will offer symmetric Internet speeds of up to 100Mbps for businesses and homes in Essex (East of England).
