A new report has produced a detailed breakdown of the top 20 fastest broadband providers in the United Kingdom by Internet download speed, which goes into significantly more depth than most of the other studies we’ve seen. Overall Hyperoptic’s FTTH network in London tops the table, while TalkTalk’s low cost and ADSL dominated solution gets pushed to the bottom.

The board of the United Kingdom’s communications regulator, Ofcom, has so far failed to find a replacement for their current CEO, Ed Richards, in time for his departure next month. So in the meantime they’ve appointed an acting Chief Executive, Steve Unger, to hold the position until the right candidate can be found.

As widely expected Ofcom has today announced a decision to make radio spectrum in the 700MHz band, which is currently used for Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) channels, available for use via future Mobile Broadband (4G, 5G) services by the start of 2022. Get ready to re-tune your TV or set-top-box.

Some 34 Ed’s Easy Diner restaurants across the United Kingdom have now been upgraded to offer a free WiFi Internet access service thanks to a new deal with The Cloud (BSkyB).

Customers who pay off their TalkTalk bill early (i.e. within 24 hours of receiving the bill notification email) could until recently benefit from a so-called “Speedy Payment Discount” of 15%, but this has now been quietly reduced to just 10% and follows hot on the heels of the ISPs other recent price rises.

The tit-for-tat ISP advertising wars appear to be continuing after BT succeeded in getting the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to ban a national press advert for Sky Broadband’s service, which apparently misled the public by claiming to be Sky’s “BEST EVER broadband offer“.
