The former Intellectual Property Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mike Weatherley MP, has published a new paper that calls for a dramatic change to the current EU Safe Harbour provisions (this removes ISPs, in certain circumstances, from liability for the illegal activity of their customers), which would weaken some of its protections and force ISPs to act more like an Internet police force.

The Kent and Medway councils in England appear to have quietly signed a second Broadband Delivery UK contract with BT, which will see the operator extend their FTTC/P based superfast broadband (24Mbps+) network beyond the existing coverage target of 91% by the end of 2015 (note: 95% will be covered by the “fibre broadband” footprint).

Fixed wireless ISP Pure Broadband has today announced that they will be the first ISP to use CityFibre’s dark fibre optic backbone connectivity network to power their wireless mast sites throughout the city of Hull in East Yorkshire (England), which marks a significant upgrade to Pure’s existing network that has been in use since 2008.

Three of the biggest UK telecoms and broadband giants, including BT, Virgin Media and KC (KCOM), have jointly written a new letter to the national communications regulator in an attempt to dissuade Ofcom from making any changes that might require them to provide access to their Dark Fibre Optic lines.
