The latest Point Topic statistics reveal that the total number of world fixed broadband subscriptions reached 714 million at the end of last year, although the level of growth has continued to decline for three consecutive quarters. A huge surge in the uptake of ultrafast pure fibre optic (FTTH/P/B) lines has been the only real positive.

A tearful 8 year old boy, Scott Burnett, from the remote Scottish hamlet of Clola in Buchan (Aberdeenshire) has written an emotional letter to BT in the hope that the operator might find a way to improve the local broadband provision. “Everyone in my school has broadband and I don’t“, said Scott.

The UK Conservative Party have today joined Labour and the Greens to publish their Manifesto for the 2015 General Election, although you won’t find many surprises inside because, as the dominant party of Government, their policy towards broadband will naturally follow the existing Broadband Delivery UK programme.
