Ofcom’s latest Telecoms Market Data update has revealed that the United Kingdom achieved a milestone of 24 million fixed line residential and small business broadband ISP connections (excluding corporate lines) in Q1 2015 (up by +277K since Q4 2014), which is 967,000 (4.2%) more than a year ago.

New subscribers who prefer to take one of Virgin Media’s standalone broadband packages, which remove the phone line rental in favour of a single price, should note that the standard cost has just increased. Meanwhile those who prefer bundles can now benefit from a 9 month discount instead of the previous 6.

The Advertising Standards Authority has banned a national press and website advert for Vodafone’s mobile network after Three UK complained that the promotions could not substantiate the claims of being “unbeatable at connecting your calls” and “unbeatable at keeping your calls connected“.

Sky Broadband appears to have quietly unveiled the pricing for their forthcoming “Sky Ultra Fibre Optic” service in the city of York (England), where they’re working alongside Cityfibre and TalkTalk to roll-out a new 940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network. Oddly, line rental still exists.

Internet provider Fuel Broadband will later today begin offering their ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband + UK evening and weekend calls bundle, which also comes with an Amazon TV Fire Stick (plus a 30 day Amazon Prime trial) and wireless router, free for the first 9 months (£5 a month thereafter).
