It’s impossible to escape today’s big news, which is that the United Kingdom has voted by a tiny margin to leave the European Union. The immediate impact upon UK Internet and broadband policy will be mild, but some areas may be hit harder than others and the future beyond 2018/9 is particularly uncertain.

The local Better Broadband for Oxfordshire project, which has already helped to make superfast broadband (24Mbps+) available to 90% of the county and is now working towards the next 95% target by the end of 2017, confirms that £4.2m of public funding will be reinvested thanks to savings.

Around 150 homes on the Orchard Park housing estate in North West Hull (East Yorkshire, England) look set to receive 6 months of free broadband from local ISP KCOM, which forms part of a joint initiative with Hull City Council that is attempting to help get more people online.
