Airband Launch Wholesale Broadband Network in Dartmoor and Exmoor

Fixed wireless ISP Airband, which last year won a £4.6m contract to deploy superfast broadband to 5,800 premises across the Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks in England (here), has today officially launched its new wholesale platform that gives rival ISPs access to use their network.

East Riding in Yorkshire Finishes Phase 1 Rollout of Fibre Broadband

The Broadband East Riding project in Yorkshire (England) has announced the successful completion of their original contract with BT. In other words, an additional 42,000 premises in the area can now access a superfast broadband (24Mbps+) service and work is now underway to reach 95% of the region.

The London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden, Andrew Dismore (Labour), has accused BT of “putting profits before people” through its Community Fibre Partnerships scheme, which works to co-fund the roll-out of “fibre broadband” into areas that have yet to benefit from faster connectivity.

Norton – Only 42% of People Can Tell if a Wi-Fi Network is Secure or Not

Can you honestly tell if a public WiFi network is secure or not? It may be better to assume that none of them are. A new survey from Internet security giant Norton (Symantec) has revealed that 61% of consumers believe their personal information is safe when using such a network.

The latest Akamai State of the Internet Q1 2016 study has reported that the United Kingdom’s average fixed line broadband download speed is now 14.9Mbps (up from 13.9Mbps at the end of 2015) vs a global average of 6.3Mbps (up from 5.6Mbps). But sadly the UK’s country ranking has fallen yet again from 17th to 19th.
