Ofcom UK CEO Warns BT to “fibre-up, or risk fading away”

The boss of UK telecoms regulator Ofcom, Sharon White, has told a conference in London today that BT (Openreach) must replace their “Victorian-era” copper ISP network with a modern “full fibre” (FTTP/H) broadband alternative or “risk losing swathes of customers to [rivals].”

O2 to Upgrade 1000 UK Sites with 2.3GHz Based 4G Mobile Spectrum

After spending £206m to acquire the 2.3GHz radio spectrum band in Ofcom’s recent auction (here), mobile operator O2 UK has now wasted no time in adopting a rapid roll-out and they intend switch-on over 1,000 sites nationwide using the new 4G frequency by the end of 2018.

Ofcom Fines Care Free UK ISP £10K for ADR Complaints Failure UPDATE

The UK telecoms regulator has fined a small broadband and phone provider – Care Free Communications – some £10,000 after discovering that the ISP contravened their rules (GC14.5) by not being a member of an official ombudsman consumer complaints handler (ADR) scheme.

Wireless ISP Airband Upgrades its Backhaul for Rural Broadband

Fixed wireless ISP Airband, which has won a number of UK state aid supported contracts to roll-out superfast broadband in counties like Shropshire, Devon and Somerset (here and here), has moved to upgrade their backhaul capacity by adopting the FibeAir IP-20 Platform from Ceragon.
