Ookla has published a new table, which reveals how much your Mobile Broadband (3G / 4G) speeds could drop within the EU when you roam outside of your home country. For example, the average local mobile download speed in the UK is 26.16Mbps but this drops by -19.4% (21.08Mbps) when roaming.

Customers of KCOM’s broadband ISP in Hull (East Yorkshire, UK) can now choose from a new range of bundles, which give subscribers the choice about how much data, calls or download speed (up to 400Mbps on FTTP) they’d like to add (as opposed to picking from the usual pre-selected bundles).

Openreach (BT) has this week announced that they will next month begin consulting UK ISPs on the process and timeline for withdrawing their Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) service by 2025, which underpins a lot of traditional copper telephone lines (PSTN / POTS).

Cable ISP Virgin Media has continued their piecemeal announcements by revealing that 10,000 premises in Cleckheaton (Kirklees, West Yorkshire) will be the next to benefit from the expansion of their cable TV and 350Mbps capable broadband network, which forms part of ‘Project Lightning‘.

A curious new report from BroadbandChoices has claimed that only 12 out of the 391 UK councils analysed have reached 95% coverage of “superfast broadband” and the worst is allegedly West Dunbartonshire (Scotland), which suffers from only 11% coverage. Except it’s completely wrong.

The “first phase” of a new Small Cell based 4G and wide-scale public WiFi network deployment in the UK City of London (Square Mile), which is claimed to be capable of “gigabit speeds“, has been completed. The roll-out forms part of a contract that is being led by the City of London Corporation.
