The City of London Corporation has informed ISPreview.co.uk that they last week sent a letter to the heads of various agencies across the area. This seeks to encourage take-up of ultrafast FTTP broadband and highlights Openreach’s (BT) concern about the challenge of getting access permission from landlords.

The Scottish Government has announced that 25,000 additional homes and businesses in Scotland’s rural Highlands and Islands will be able to access “superfast broadband” as part of a second round of extended coverage for the region, which is part of the state aid supported £428m Digital Scotland (DSSB) project.

At the end of last year we revealed that a new UK ISP called Cambridge Fibre was preparing to deploy a multi-Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network for homes and businesses in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (here). The provider now appears to have begun their rollout and launched packages.

The Connecting Cambridgeshire project, which is working alongside Openreach (BT) to help extend fixed line “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) coverage from around 96% today to 99% of premises in the UK county by the end of 2020 (here), has secured a £4.15m funding boost to help connect rural businesses.

Residents in the rural village of Blaenffos (Pembrokeshire, Wales) have been left confused after a mix of admin delays, cost concerns and conflicting feedback from ISPs resulted in the local roll-out of a new ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network entering a lengthy state of limbo.
