The stated-owned telecoms operator JT (Jersey Telecom), which recently deployed a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network to cover the English Channel Island of Jersey, is celebrating today after being short-listed in two categories as part of the World Communication Awards 2019.

Broadband ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) has today announced that they’ve started a trial of both DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and DNS over TLS (DoT) services, which encrypts Domain Name System requests (i.e. turning IP addresses into human readable domains like ISPreview.co.uk and back again) in order to make them secure.

Mobile operator Three UK has today pledged that existing customers can expect “performance improvements” (i.e. faster mobile broadband speeds) of up to 150% as part of a major upgrade, which will see them both rollout L-Band (1.4GHz) technology to boost 4G and switch some of their 3G spectrum to 4G.

Low cost UK ISP TalkTalk has today responded to Ofcom’s wider call for greater industry fairness to consumers by unveiling a new set of “pricing commitments“, which they claim will ensure that “vulnerable customers can benefit from the best available deals” and receive the “most appropriate support” to meet their needs.

Reports this morning claim that BT (Openreach) are in “secret” negotiations with the government and UK ISPs about a new six point plan, which could see the last of their old copper phone lines being switched off by 2027 and replaced by “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband. Provided everybody agrees of course.

The United Kingdom has placed 13th out of 34 countries in a new Connectivity Index from Carphone Warehouse, which ranks sixteen different metrics across each country (transport links, information sharing, mobile broadband speeds, tourism and immigration etc.) in order to determine which are the most connected.
