Infracapital owned broadband ISP Gigaclear, which has already built their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover 130,000 UK premises, has today officially launched their new Community Hub Scheme that will offer a “free” 900Mbps business service on a 12 month term to key community sites in the areas they cover.

Mobile operator Three UK has today announced that their 5G based (mobile broadband) network has now started to go live across busy parts of some 154 UK towns and cities (via a total of 800 cell sites and masts), which also includes the launch of their first Ericsson powered 5G sites in Manchester, Glasgow and Reading.

Worcestershire-based UK broadband ISP Airband, which has spent the past few years deploying a number of fixed wireless and “full fibre” (FTTP) networks to rural areas, has today revealed that Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) has acquired a majority stake in the company and plans a major fibre deployment.

In another telecoms policy surprise the UK Government has today announced that mobile operators, such as Three UK, EE (BT) and Vodafone, must stop installing “any” Huawei equipment in ultrafast 5G networks from the end of September 2021. A 35% cap on kit will also apply to FTTP and gigabit broadband from Jan 2023.
