The West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has, having decided not to wait any longer for the UK Government to solve the problem, moved to “ensure that all newly-built homes” have essential “full fibre” broadband services “ready for homeowners when they move in,” which it will do by developing new planning “guidance“.

It’s been almost a year to the day since UK ISP Zzoomm announced they’d be rolling out their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in the Cathedral City of Hereford (Herefordshire), although the build itself didn’t begin until early 2021. But the first customer connections have now gone live.

Full fibre UK ISP Hyperoptic, which is rolling out a new gigabit-capable FTTP/B broadband network across parts of 43 towns and cities (mostly large residential buildings and office blocks), have decided to celebrate their 10th anniversary this month by offering their top “gigabit” (900Mbps avg.) package for just £20 per month.

The Fastershire project has revealed that UK ISP Gigaclear’s rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Herefordshire is suffering from “delivery challenges,” which without “significant additional resources” could make it difficult to reach up to 2,324 of the planned premises.

BT (BT Mobile) has apologised and refunded one of their UK Mobile customers after their system informed him that “there won’t be any charges to switch your service to another mobile provider,” only to later hit him with a bill of £234.97 after having done exactly that. Customer support then refused to help, until we got involved.

Wireless UK broadband ISP and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) provider VoIP Unlimited has suffered connectivity problems again after being hit by a second “large scale” Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault, which began yesterday and follows a similar attack that occurred last month (here).

Consumer magazine Which? has just released the results of their 15th annual awards event for 2021, which among other things named Tesco Mobile as their “Utilities Brand of the Year” after they “easily” outranked their largest competitors in the company’s best and worst mobile phone providers survey.

A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by Uswitch, has claimed that more than 2 million UK households have chosen not to switch broadband ISP because they fear it would result in a loss of access to the email address supplied by their existing internet provider.

UK ISP YouFibre has today announced that their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which is being built by network partner Netomnia, has seen rapid growth over the past few months – leaping from 1,000 customers in June 2021 to 2,500 now.

Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has today upgraded a further 2.5 million UK premises to their latest DOCSIS 3.1 network, which means that 12.8 million homes can now access their top “gigabit” download speeds of 1130Mbps (52Mbps up) and this will surely push UK coverage of “gigabit-capable broadband” to well over 50%.

British-registered satellite company OneWeb, which is busy deploying a large constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for ultrafast low-latency broadband provision, has received a second investment boost – worth $165m (c.£120m) – from rival operator Eutelsat that raises their stake from 17.6% to 22.9%.

Broadway Partners (ISP Broadway Broadband) has today secured a huge investment of £145m from Downing LLP to fuel their rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which aspires to cover 250,000 homes and businesses by 2025 – mostly across rural parts of Scotland and Wales.
