A relatively new UK ISP called Fresh Fibre has become the latest retail provider to join FullFibre Limited‘s (Fibre Heroes) growing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband network, which is currently in the process of being merged with Digital Infrastructure (BeFibre).

Network builder and broadband ISP Brsk, which has already deployed their own gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to 250,000 UK premises (RFS), has today announced that they’ve expanded further into Lancashire (England) with the addition of Darwen.

A small group of 30 customers on Virgin Media’s (VMO2) home broadband packages, specifically those who are still using their old Hub 3.0 (ARRIS TG2492S/CE) router, are being invited to help beta test a new firmware update for the device. Participants will also receive a £30 Amazon voucher on completion of the trial.

Sometimes, less is more, or at least that’s the idea behind BT (EE) and Nokia’s latest trials of 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology and devices at the operator’s Adastral Park site in Ipswich (England). RedCap is a technology introduced in 3GPP Release 17 that brings 5G to devices that do not require its full capabilities.

Bromsgrove-based JET Connectivity, which was spun out from JET Engineering Services and develops 5G (wireless broadband) mesh communications for the marine environment, has launched the “world’s first permanently deployable 5G floating base station” (cell tower) in Grimsby to help connect an operational offshore wind farm.

Customers of UK mobile operator and broadband ISP Vodafone, specifically those taking their original Pro Broadband (Pro 1) package for homes, have been informed that the included WiFi booster device will soon lose the use of its built-in Alexa voice assistant. This is because the new home broadband app they’re planning to launch doesn’t support it.
