Mobile operator and broadband ISP EE has updated their online “Tech Store“, which sells a mix of extra services and gadgets (e.g. TVs, games consoles, laptops etc.), to introduced “Tech Drops“. This is a new monthly scheme that sees their store “offer a huge saving on a limited amount of stock of the hottest tech“, purchased via their App on a “first-come-first-serve basis“.

Internet service provider PlusNet, which is part of the wider BT Group, has informed customers that they’re “now ready” to finally start trials of Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6) addressing on their “High Touch” broadband network. The ISP has previously only conducted a small scale technical trial on their “Low Touch” network (here) – used by c. 90% of customers.

Network benchmarking firm Opensignal has today published a new report that examines how the UK’s broadband experience varies across speed tiers, with homes on “ultrafast” (300Mbps+) connections enjoying a “smoother and more reliable” service than those on “superfast” (30-300Mbps) ones. ISPs EE, Vodafone and Plusnet topped the performance rankings.

Broadband ISP BT (EE) has this morning caused a degree of surprise by appearing to reverse last week’s denial (here) and announcing a price increase of £1 per month across their low-cost home broadband social tariffs for those on state benefits (Home Essentials). The provider had previously indicated to ISPreview that no such price increases would be introduced in 2025.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an advert on UK mobile and broadband operator Vodafone’s website. This occured after EE complained that its claim of being “The Nation’s Network” was an “implied comparative superiority claim“, which was ultimately deemed to be “misleading“.

European managed network connectivity provider Hughes Network Systems (Hughes Europe) has today announced that they’ve teamed-up with Eutelsat to harness the OneWeb network. This is a global constellation of broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), which is still partly supported by the UK government (11% stake).

Sky (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) has refreshed their Sky VIP scheme, which typically offers special discounts and rewards to existing customers. This began after the My Sky App introduced (9th April 2025) a new “first-for-Sky discounts marketplace“, exclusively available to their VIP customers.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA) and Point Topic have published their 2025 report into the impact of alternative gigabit speed “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband networks on the UK. The study reveals that their coverage grew by 27% in 2024 to top 16.4 million premises (down from 57% in 2023 [12.9m]) and could grow to 18.6m in 2025.

Business focused UK ISP and Managed Service Provider (MSP) Connectus has today announced that they’re investing a further £500,000 into the Doncaster Airport Business Park in South Yorkshire (England), which is on top of the £1m they previously put in to help ensure all businesses on the park could enjoy access to their gigabit full fibre (broadband and Ethernet) network.

Network operator Freedom Fibre has today announced that they’ve chosen network solutions provider Xantaro and their related “Cabinet-as-a-Service” street cabinet solution to help “accelerate” their ongoing roll-out of a full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Shropshire (England). This is being conducted alongside fixed and IP services from Nokia.

Mobile network provider giffgaff, which is owned by Telefónica and naturally uses O2’s virtual operator (MVNO) platform, has today confirmed their intention to trial and launch a range of full fibre (FTTP) home broadband packages via nexfibre and Virgin Media’s national networks. Much as ISPreview first leaked last year.

The not-for-profit London Internet Exchange, which handles a large chunk of UK and global data traffic through their switches via around 900 members (broadband ISPs, mobile and CDN providers etc.), has revealed that their LON2 network (interconnection platform) is nearing a key milestone of 1Tbps (Terabits per second) of peak network traffic and with a full technology refresh planned for later this year.

A new cost-of-living study conducted by market research firm Maru, which polled 40,000 UK adults at multiple touchpoints over three years to date, claims to have found that 53% of respondents thought it was “likely” that they would need to consider changing their home broadband in order to cut costs. A further 52% said the same for their mobile phone plan.

Alternative network operator and ISP Grain has today announced that their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has grown to cover 250,000 UK premises (up from 220k in May 2024) and 43,000 customers (up from 30,000). But crucially, they also did as expected (here) and went EBITDA positive during the quarter ended March 2025.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Edinburgh-based UK alternative broadband network operator and ISP GoFibre, Neil Conaghan, has now quietly also been named as the Interim CEO of network provider Wildanet – they’re doing something similar to GoFibre, albeit at the other end of the United Kingdom.

The UK telecommunications regulator, Ofcom, has today opened a new investigation into call centre solutions’ provider Primo Dialler, which will examine “concerns that numbers sub-allocated to [the company] are/were being misused, including to facilitate scams.”

Broadband ISP Lit Fibre, which now harnesses CityFibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network (they originally ran their own UK fibre network – here), has refreshed their existing range of packages and also introduced new a range of “specialised” product packages called ‘Lit Ultimate’, ‘Lit Homeworker’, ‘Lit Family’ and ‘Lit Gamer’.
