Supermarket chain Somerfield has become the first company, that we know of, to trial Vanco's new
WiMAX based wireless broadband service, which was first announced
here as part of a deal with FREEDOM4 and Vialtus.
The service will use
WiMAX to deliver a Wide Area Network (WAN) to the supermarket, which will be managed by Vanco. Trials will start at Somerfield's Manchester base first, with rollout to additional locations expected to follow, provided it proves successful.
It is not presently clear whether Somerfield's intend to use the service for internal uses only or to deploy it for wider usage by customers around the store.
