The latest GSM Association (GSMA) study of 1000 enterprises across the US, Europe and Asia Pacific has revealed that HSPA Mobile Broadband is growing in popularity. It shows that a high number of global organisations currently rely on HSPA for Mobile Broadband connectivity compared to those that use Wi-Fi.

Roughly 36% of IT managers/directors and CIOs worldwide were found to have deployed HSPA as their principle means of employee Mobile Broadband access. Worldwide enterprise mobile technology budgets are also expected to almost double over the next 12 months, suggesting that the gap between Mobile Broadband and Wi-Fi use is set to grow.

It's therefore no surprise that 24% of global enterprises are expecting the technology to become the industry standard over the next five years and 59% have provided some form of wireless Internet to their employees.


Presently Wi-Fi - especially public Hotspots - has managed to stave off the onslaught of Mobile Broadband adoption in the UK with some careful price cuts and promises of improved speeds and service reliability; though by nature they will always suffer from limited coverage. However as the technology improves it will soon become very difficult for Wi-Fi Hotspots to survive.
