Thousands of BT based telephone and broadband lines in Kent have been cut-off after criminals cut and stole six crucial copper cables on Wednesday last week. It is the second time that such a theft has occurred in the area, a similar incident took place during September last year.
A BT Spokesperson told BBC News Online :
"It is a very complex and time consuming repair job. We are doing all we can to restore services as quickly as possible. Up to 2,000 customers were affected and services have now been restored for nearly half of them. We hope to have completed the work by end of Monday."
Residents are reportedly very angry with the situation, with similar thefts becoming increasingly common over the past few years. BT engineers are understood to be working around the clock to fix the damage, which requires 3km of cabling to be replaced.
