The latest YouGov study of over 2000 UK Mobile Broadband consumers reveals that Three (3) has managed to best its rivals ( Orange , T-Mobile , O2 and Vodafone ) to come TOP in 10 out of the 12 service quality categories. The result appears to vindicate the operators growing internet data investment efforts.

Connectivity solutions company murphx has added BT's new up to 40Mbps Fibre-to-the-Cabinet ( FTTC ) technology to its portfolio of wholesale broadband products. The group supplies many of the markets virtual ISPs (vISPs) with internet connectivity services, so don't be surprised if we see a few more FTTC announcements over the coming months.

The cost of broadband bundles and phone calls is set to rise again after BT Retail announced that the price of UK landline rental would increase by 50p (pence) a month from October 2010, with call charges also expected to jump by an extra 10% (e.g. daytime rate rise from 5.9p to 6.4p). The cost of connecting a call will also be hiked from 9.9p to 10.9p.

Kent County Council (KCC) has revealed that it spent £486,000 over the past 4 years to broadband enable 6,800 properties in the region, cutting the number of Kentish homes without good internet access from 37,958 to 21,026. The council has now confirmed that its grant scheme will continue until everybody is able to get broadband.

Customers of Link-Connect's UK Business Broadband packages will be pleased to know that their ISP is upgrading everybody with its new up to 24Mbps ADSL2+ service (where suitable exchange equipment exists) and free of charge. Many connections already have this speed but a few are still languishing on the older 8Mbps ADSL service.

UK ISP KC ( Karoo Broadband ), the incumbent telecoms operator for Hull and East Riding in Yorkshire, has criticised the government's target for universal broadband access (2Mbps for all by 2012 2015) as being "nowhere near ambitious enough" and again highlighted its own target of 10Mbps. The comments came from KC's representative at the recent broadband Industry Day event in London last week.

Consumer Focus (CF), a statutory organisation campaigning for a fair deal for consumers in the UK, and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) have both sounded a mix of "shock" and disappointment today as they reacted to yesterdays news that the government had delayed its universal 2Mbps broadband for all target (USC) from 2012 to 2015.

Broadband ISP and phone operator TalkTalk UK has warned that a proposed two year pay freeze for public sector workers could have the potential to seriously affect broadband uptake, with tens of thousands of staff having less disposable income to spend on internet access.

Award winning UK ISP Be Broadband , which is currently offering 2 MONTHS FREE service (here) , confirms that it has begun investigating the prospects of offering a future "super-fast" fibre optic broadband service, most likely one that makes use of the up to 40Mbps BT based Fibre-to-the-Cabinet ( FTTC ) technology. A possible product name of BE fibre is also hinted at.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), the delivery vehicle for government broadband policies, today held a crucial industry event to discuss future "super-fast" internet access services. It also revealed that the target for bringing a minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps within reach of everybody by 2012 had been DELAYED to 2015.

Spotify, the popular free internet music sharing service, has told Hi-Fi Choice magazine in the UK that one of the reasons it cannot offer ultra high quality (lossless) music is because the country's broadband ISPs are unable to cope.

Yesterdays Westminster e-Forum on unlawful file sharing (P2P) by customers of UK broadband ISPs revealed that BT is confident its Judicial Review with TalkTalk against the Digital Economy Act 2010 (DEA) can succeed. Sadly the Performing Rights Society for Music has taken the opposite stance, threatening to use controversial Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology from Detica to impose a new music tax on internet ALL users.

Pembrokeshire-based wireless ( Wi-Fi , WiMAX ) broadband and telecommunications specialist, TFL Group, is calling for more clarity on the Welsh Assembly Government’s (WAG) recently-announced £2m 'Broadband Support Scheme' (details), which is offering grants of up to £1,000 to individual properties that are unable to get a good broadband ISP connection in Wales (UK).

The UK Internet Service Providers Association ( ISPA ) informs us that they have seen more than a 50% drop in complaints to their Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service since last year. In January 2009 there were 400 complaints in the ISPA system and in June 2010 that is now down to 167.

The rollout of future 4G ( LTE , WiMAX ) Mobile Broadband services in the UK (i.e. 800MHz and 2.6GHz), which could make fixed line ISP speeds a reality for mobile operators too and help to expand their coverage, looks to be back on track after the government hinted that related Ofcom auctions would take place in one year's time (i.e. Mid-2011).

Wireless ISP Airband Community Internet Ltd has unveiled the expansion of its UK Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) broadband ISP network to include Ludlow (Shropshire), Leominster (Herefordshire) and Tenbury Wells (Worcestershire). The project was officially announced at the start of July and aims to benefit 40,000 people and more than 2500 businesses in the region.

A new survey conducted with 1,000 UK Mobile Broadband customers has found that 53.5% simply "don't know" how many GigaByte's (GB) of internet data they consume per month, which is despite some operators offering the ability (i.e. software) to help keep track of such vital information.
