Customers of Virgin Media’s mobile tariffs have been told to expect a price rise of 1.6% from 1st July 2016, which they say is in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation announced in April when the figure was at its highest (it’s back to 1.3% now) and there are a few other increases too.

Openreach’s (BT) big green FTTC superfast broadband Street Cabinets can be a bit dull and so an artist from Doncaster in South Yorkshire (England), Nick Boruk, has decided to help promote the new service by covering a few of them with a big Teddy Bear face (painted canvas cover). Ok then.

The latest quarterly update from the Office of the Telecommunications Adjudicator (OTA) has revealed that the era of traditional pure copper line based Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), which gives rivals greater control over part of BT’s UK telecoms infrastructure, may be entering into a slow decline.

The Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications (BEREC), which represents national telecoms regulators from across the EU (e.g. Ofcom in the UK), has published its first draft guidelines for Europe’s new Net Neutrality rules that require ISPs and mobile operators to maintain an open Internet.

The Cambridge-based John Henry Group (JHG), which helps to build new telecoms and fibre optic broadband infrastructure for operators like Virgin Media and BT, has won a £23.3 million investment from independent private equity company Growth Capital Partners (GCP).

The United Kingdom’s telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today ruled that there are “reasonable grounds for believing” that mobile and broadband provider Vodafone breached consumer complaint handing rules by not having the correct procedures in place.

The Superfast Swindon project in Wiltshire (England), which last month revealed the initial roll-out areas for UKB Networks controversial new 4G fixed wireless superfast broadband service (details), has now confirmed the first supporting ISPs and package prices for local residents.

It’s been a year since BT and the Northumberland County Council signed a £4.1m deal (phase 2 extension contract) to further expand the reach of their “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) FTTC/P network to 95% of local premises by the end of 2017. Today we’ve learnt which areas will be the first to benefit.

Mobile operator Three UK has a problem with radio spectrum, it needs more. The operator had hoped to tackle this challenge by gobbling O2, but the EU’s competition body blocked that (here). Now they’re demanding more spectrum security from Ofcom and the regulator may have to deliver.

The national telecoms regulator has today produced an updated study of 4G based Mobile Broadband speeds in central London, which specifically looks at the performance impact of the latest Category 4 vs 6 (LTE-Advanced) networks. Once again EE wins the speed crown, but Vodafone are catching up.

Sky UK (Sky Broadband) has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they are about to start trials of a new 18Mbps unlimited usage Sky Fibre Lite (FTTC) product with around 20,000 customers, which is designed to tempt those on their slower ADSL2+ based service to upgrade to FTTC for a better speed.

The already complicated situation in North Swindon (Wiltshire, England) just became even more interesting after Virgin Media appeared to indicate that its ultrafast (up to 300Mbps) cable and fibre optic broadband network would also be expanding into additional parts of the area.

Anybody interested in Andrews and Arnold’s (AAISP) Home::1 TeraByte broadband package, which combines either an ADSL2+ or ‘up to’ 80Mbps FTTC (VDSL) service with a 1 TeraByte (1000 GigaBytes) usage allowance, may like to know that it can now be taken without bundled line rental from the same ISP.

Ofcom has opened a new investigation after TalkTalk complained about the amount of money being charged by Openreach (BT) for their Special Fault Investigation (SFI) engineer service and Time Related Charges (TRC), which are often used to resolve customer phone or broadband problems.
