Shropshire-based ISP Aquiss has announced that all of their ‘up to’ 19Mbps ADSL and ‘up to’ 38-76Mbps unlimited “fibre broadband” (FTTC) packages are being offered free for the first 3 months of service to new orders until 30th November, although this doesn’t include phone line rental (optional service).

Still not good enough, BT. The CEO of Ofcom, Sharon White, has told MPs that BT still isn’t investing enough into UK broadband infrastructure and confirmed that the regulator would “absolutely” give a final verdict on Openreach’s future in December. But the changes might have to be forced through.

Comparison site Cable.co.uk has revealed the winners of their annual Broadband Awards 2016, which saw Plusnet scoop more wins across different consumer voted categories than any other ISP. But there were also some wins in different areas for Virgin Media, Sky Broadband, BT and other ISPs.

A new TNS survey of 2,012 British “adults” aged 16-64, which was commissioned by Satellite provider ViaSat, has revealed that 72% don’t believe the Government is doing enough to meet future broadband needs, while many others are confused about the reality of current service coverage and speeds.

The Government’s effort to roll-out “high speed” Mobile Broadband to most train commuters by 2019 and WiFi to many of the busiest parts of Britain’s rail network by 2017/18 has been criticised after it was revealed that the on-board WiFi contract only required a speed of 1Mbps per passenger.

A new Vodafone commissioned study from Point Topic has predicted that only 6.5% of UK households can expect to be covered by Gigabit (1000Mbps+) capable FTTP/H fibre optic broadband cables by 2020, but other data from Point Topic forecasts a figure of 9.4% when business premises are included.

The latest 2016 UK Prime Country Review (Winter) from Knight Frank, an estate agent that covers London and the UK, has revealed that 47% of 500+ new house buyers active in the prime market would be “more likely” to buy a house in an area with good Internet connectivity or superfast broadband.

The Government has admitted that the United Kingdom is “falling behind on the roll out of full-fibre” (FTTP/H) ultrafast broadband and confirmed that tomorrows Autumn Statement will aim to rectify that via a new £1bn Digital Infrastructure Fund, which should help 2 million extra homes get access.

The Black Friday deals are starting to pop-up and Sky Broadband have today reduced their ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband and phone bundle from £27.40 to just £15 per month for the first 12 months of service. Just for good measure they’ve also thrown in a £75 PrePaid MasterCard.

After a long delay Ofcom has unveiled the rules for their forthcoming auction of radio spectrum in the 2.3GHz (2350-2390MHz) and 3.4GHz (3410-3600MHz) bands, which will help mobile operators to launch Mobile Broadband (4G) services with “very fast download speeds“. But it’s bad news for BT / EE as a cap will apply.

As expected the Government has officially announced that Mobile and fixed line broadband providers in the United Kingdom will soon be forced into the mandatory blocking of all “adult” websites; specifically those that fail to offer an adequate method of age-verification for their visitors.

The Managing Director and Founder of broadband ISP Call Flow Solutions, Andy Conibere, has told ISPreview.co.uk that the future could be “very bright“, provided regulation is introduced to protect alternative networks from being “unfairly squeezed out by the dominant suppliers” (BT, Virgin Media etc.).

UK ISP TalkTalk has revealed that they’ve had to add an additional 100Gbps (Gigabits per second) of data capacity to their network just to help cope with any extra load being generated by Amazon Prime’s new TV show, The Grand Tour (aka – Top Gear, but not on the BBC).

The Welsh Government (WG) has committed an extra £5 million to help upgrade the broadband connectivity at around 400 schools that have struggled to meet the demand or infrastructure requirements of the existing programme.

Consumer magazine Which? has published the outcome from their latest H2 2016 reader survey of broadband ISP satisfaction, which for the 10th time has named Zen Internet the best of the bunch. Sadly the news isn’t so good for TalkTalk, which had the lowest customer satisfaction score of 37%.

Six million customers of mobile operator Three UK could be at risk after the provider admitted that a database of users (those eligible for a phone upgrade) was breached. Three people have already been arrested in connection with the situation, but the operator has done little to inform users.

Alternative network provider Call Flow Solutions has announced the completion of their Broadband Delivery UK contract for the ‘Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’ in Berkshire (England), which has expanded the reach of their 30Mbps+ capable FTTC broadband network to an extra 1,750 premises.
