Alternative fixed wireless ISP Boundless Networks, which has helped to expand superfast and ultrafast broadband services to a number of UK rural areas, has officially become the latest to be awarded with a new Quality Accreditation from the UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (UKWISPA).

Utility infrastructure provider GTC (Brookfield Utilities UK / OFNL) has announced that a sixth ISP – BreezTel – is joining their platform and will thus be able to offer services over their Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network, which is being deployed to some new build home developments.

A new study from research group M-Lab and Cable.co.uk has examined ISPs and 3,303 packages from 195 countries across the world to produce a comparison of fixed line broadband prices, which reveals that the average monthly cost of internet access is cheapest in the Ukraine ($5 USD), while the UK ranks only 61st ($39.58).

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association last night unveiled the winners of their inaugural 2018 awards event (The INCAs), which aims to recognise and celebrate the best alternative broadband network providers (altnets) from across the United Kingdom. Wins were secured by Hyperoptic, KCOM and others.

ISPreview.co.uk has learnt that cable ISP Virgin Media have recently started inviting selected customers to take part in a secret new “broadband trial” (VMBW2) for Smart Wi-Fi technology, which aims to boost the overall network performance and improve connectivity to WiFi enabled devices.

The dominant ISP for Hull in East Yorkshire, KCOM, has announced the introduction of their new “PRO Team” service, which claims to be the “first of its kind in the UK” and involves sending out a special engineering team to help solve customers’ Wi-Fi woes, router problems and buffering issues for free.
