The government has revealed that its new Age Verification system, which will be targeted at commercial websites and “apps” that contain pornographic content (broadband ISPs will be expected to block any that don’t comply), will not now be introduced until Easter 2019. But in the future Twitter may also be targeted.

The FTTH Council Europe has today welcomed a vote by the European Parliament to approve the new European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), which could boost investment in “full fibre” (FTTP/H) broadband and 5G mobile. But they also called on the EU to get tough on “fake fibre” marketing by ISPs.

Hybrid wireless and fibre optic ISP Airband has announced that they’ve started to expand their “bespoke” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network into “current deployments,” which we assume includes those that have previously only had a service via their slower fixed wireless network.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA) has today announced the launch of their new “Gold Standard Quality Mark Scheme“, which aims to highlight alternative network (AltNet) broadband ISPs that adopt the best practices in performance, design and operations.

The CEO of Vodafone Group, Nick Read, has told a meeting of investors that, at the wholesale fibre broadband ISP level, they’re “not engaging” with Openreach (BT) any more “in terms of any further opportunity,” which puts pay to earlier predictions of a new co-funded FTTP build. But they would talk to Comcast (Sky).
