Full fibre UK ISP Gigaclear has announced that 557 premises in Great Saling and Panfield, both within the Braintree District of Essex, can now access their Gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network as a result of both the state aid supported Superfast Essex contract (Phase 3) and their separate commercial roll-out.

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has apologised after a significant blunder meant that customers of its network, including those busy roaming around Europe, were hit by incorrect bills of up to several thousand pounds over the weekend due to a “technical error” (translation – botched customer database update).

The Queen has today carried out the annual State Opening of Parliament, which as per usual included a list of policy plans that the Government intends to put forward over the coming years. As expected this included some planned legislation for broadband and internet safety related matters.

Urban “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband ISP Hyperoptic has today announced that the global investment firm KKR has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in the provider from funds managed by Newlight Partners LP and the Mubadala Investment Company. Sadly financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Private equity firm Equistone has reportedly expressed an interest in acquiring a controlling stake in business broadband ISP XLN Telecom, which is said to be valued at around £200m and has attracted interest from several other parties since unofficially hoisting the ‘for sale’ sign earlier this year.

UK ISP Sky Broadband is this week expected to put their new range of G.fast based “ultrafast broadband” packages live for everybody, which follows an initial soft launch in August (here). The bad news is that those waiting for FTTP (Openreach) to be supported may now have to wait until Q1 2020.

The Church of England has reached a new agreement with the network sharing division of Vodafone UK and O2 – Cornerstone – to help boost 4G and future 5G mobile network coverage into poorly served areas (both rural and urban locations), which should make it easier for them to install discreet antennas.
