Scotland Reveal R100 Full Fibre Broadband Rollout Plan to 2023

The Scottish Government‘s Minister for Connectivity, Paul Wheelhouse, has today issued an update on the progress of their much delayed £600m R100 (Reaching 100%) project, which confirms how many premises will benefit in each area and what technologies will be used. Sadly the rollout will complete in 2023, rather than 2021.

Fibrus Names Next N.Ireland FTTP Broadband Rollout Areas

Belfast-based UK ISP Fibrus, which last year started the £85m+ roll-out of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in Northern Ireland (here) and has also been linked to Project Stratum (here), has today unveiled the next batch of areas in County Down to benefit from their infrastructure.

BT and ATEME Move to Tackle Streamed TV Broadcasting Piracy

Communications provider and UK ISP BT, which through their TV division have established a sizeable broadcasting business, has today moved to tackle the rising piracy of premium content transmitted via satellite by harnessing technology from video infrastructure company ATEME.

Ofcom Scorecards Help Compare Big Mobile and Broadband ISPs

The national communications regulator, Ofcom, has today partnered with the UK Regulators Network (UKRN) to publish a series of new scorecards that are intended to help customers compare several key areas from the largest broadband ISPs, mobile and phone providers. But what of smaller providers? Forget about it.

4,500 Homes in Houghton-le-Spring Get Virgin Media Full Fibre

Cable and fibre optic ISP Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has just completed another build of their 516Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband and TV network in County Durham, which has just gone live for 4,500 homes in the Sunderland town of Houghton-le-Spring, including the surrounding areas of Shiney Row and Penshaw.

Portsmouth Council Picks MLL to Provide Connectivity Services

The Portsmouth City Council, which last year awarded Cityfibre the £3.8m Local Full Fibre Network contract to rollout a new “gigabit-capable” Ethernet and broadband network to 200 public sector sites (here), has confirmed that UK biz ISP MLL Telecom have been chosen to provide services on the related Solent Network framework.

Magdalene to Help EE and Three UK Deliver New Mobile Sites

Infrastructure firm Magdalene (part of M Group Services) has signed a new 5 year deal to help develop and upgrade 4G / 5G mobile sites (e.g. Masts) for Mobile Broadband Network Ltd (MBNL), which is the Joint Venture between Three UK and EE (BT) that is responsible for the management and deployment of their shared sites.
