UK ISP FACTCO (Fibre & Communication Technology Company) has announced that they’ve extended their 10Gbps capable “full fibre” network to cover all of the 180+ businesses (c.600 staff) in the Baltic Creative CIC, which is situated within Liverpool’s (Merseyside) Baltic Triangle area and is supported by the Government’s voucher scheme.

After a protracted period of uncertainty the UK Government has today confirmed that kit from Chinese technology giant Huawei and other “high risk vendors” will be banned from the “sensitive” core of future UK 5G and “gigabit-capable” fixed broadband ISP networks, although non-core 5G kit (antennas, street cabinets etc.) will be exempt.

Ofcom has decided to drop last year’s investigation into whether BT had correctly billed for Excess Construction Charges (ECCs) when providing new UK business lines (Ethernet services etc.). The regulator made their decision in light of the “limited consumer harm” and “proactive steps” that Openreach had taken to address the issue.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk UK has hired the former BBC journalist and campaign strategist, Lucy Thomas, to be its new Director of Corporate Affairs. Lucy joins from the communications agency, Edelman, where she was Senior Director, leading campaigns and advising major brands like Coca Cola on reputation, PR and political campaigning etc.

UK ISP BT has today confirmed the completion of their long-running strategy to end the outsourcing of customer support, which previously resulted in related calls being answered in India and the Philippines. Instead 100% of such calls will now be answered in the UK and Ireland, which has completed a year ahead of schedule.

A team of South African and Chinese scientists have figure out how to harness multiple quantum patterns of twisted light (from a laser) so that it can be sent across a conventional single mode fibre optic cable (these can usually only support one pattern), which wouldn’t ordinarily be possible without a custom made fibre.

Feedback from readers has enabled us to confirm that the new UK full fibre ISP People’s Fibre, which has so far declined to say precisely where they intend to roll-out their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, will begin one of their first deployments in North Wales.
