Openreach (BT) has today announced that they will deliver “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) coverage to an additional 5,000 homes and 550 businesses in Suffolk UK (mostly rural areas) after securing the contract for Phase 3 of the state aid supported Better Broadband for Suffolk (BBS) project, which we assume will use FTTP.

Comparison site Comparethemarket.com has posted a new study, which they claim shows the top 10 best and worst Areas in England for gamers. Overall Hull comes top due to its speed of 137Mbps and a 99% availability of “superfast broadband“, while Central Devon sits bottom on 34Mbps and 77%. But key details have been overlooked.

A new Censuswide survey of 2,023 UK people aged 16+, which was commissioned by ISP Zen Internet, has found that 83% of those aged 55+ haven’t switched broadband provider within the last year (vs 55% for those aged 16-24), if ever at all, and could thus be left exposed to paying more via end-of-contract broadband price hikes.

Rural ISP TrueSpeed, which is backed by an investment of £75m from Aviva Investors and is deploying a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across South West England (mostly Somerset), has today appointed Paul Burridge as their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help accelerate their plans and future growth.

After a long wait Sky Broadband has finally become the latest UK ISP to introduce an ultrafast and superfast broadband package based off Openreach’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, but sadly this will initially take the form of a small scale pilot and is currently only available to a number of FTTP eligible homes.
