OneWeb Get GBP395m from Rival to Grow LEO Broadband Satellites

OneWeb, which is partly owned by the UK Government and aims to deploy a global network of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for ultrafast low-latency broadband provision (here), has today secured $550m (£395m) in funding from rival operator Eutelsat. This brings their total funding to $1.9bn (£1.37bn) in fresh equity.

Rival Broadband ISPs May Scoop 4 Million UK Customers by 2025

A new Point Topic study, commissioned by TV and WiFi Mesh provider Netgem, has predicted that Alternative Networks (AltNet) and “Challenger ISPs” could gain up to 1 million additional UK customers by 2025, which would increase their market share to 14.5% (3.74 million customers) from 12.5% in 2021.

Ofcom Reveal Final Results of UK 5G Mobile Spectrum Auction

The telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today published the final results from their recent £1.38bn auction of 5G friendly radio spectrum in the 700MHz and 3.6-3.8GHz frequency bands, which includes a few key changes from last month’s principal stage. Better mobile broadband coverage and speeds are expected.
