Mobile operator Three UK has launched new discounts and devices across their range of 4G and 5G based unlimited Home Broadband packages, which now start at just £14 per month for 24-months of service on their 4G plan or £22 for 5G (the 5G price is largely unchanged). You can optionally also bundle-in various gadget gifts.

Contract-free mobile operator VOXI, which is a virtual operator (MVNO) sibling of Vodafone UK, will later today introduce a new range of discounts across their plans and also boost the data allowances for mobile broadband usage. But these will only be available to order until 7th October 2021.

The Scottish Government has today issued a progress update on their £600m Reaching 100% (R100) programme with Openreach (BT), which provides more detail on their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) dominated plan for extending “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) across the LOT 1 area – North Scotland and the Highlands.

Mobile operator 1p Mobile have begun to inform their UK customers of a change to their service that will see a new “minimum monthly spend” requirement of £2.50 being introduced from 1st October 2021. Customers who have set an auto-top-up will thus also see their minimum threshold go from £2 to £3.

Full Fibre Limited, which aims to deploy a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover “at least” 500,000 UK premises by 2025, has today named the next batch of 13 rural and semi-urban “forgotten towns” across Derbyshire, Staffordshire, West Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire to benefit from their rollout.

The latest H1 2021 study of UK broadband coverage in new build homes has indicated that 92.8% of houses constructed during the first half of this year were connected to a “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP network (up from 90% in H2 2020), which rises to 98.6% for 30Mbps+ “superfast broadband” services (up from 98.3%).

A new UK market entrant called Hampstead Fibre, which was only incorporated in late May 2021 and doesn’t yet appear to have its own website, has cropped up with a plan to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across parts of London and then beyond.

Vodafone UK has teamed up with network supplier Ericsson to conduct a new trial in Central London, which demonstrated an impressive 43% reduction in the energy consumption of their 5G mobile broadband network (reaching up to 55% at off-peak times). The operator has also re-farmed some of their 900MHz band to boost 4G.

A new Censuswide survey of 2,014 UK adults with a broadband connection, which was commissioned by ISP Zen Internet to examine some common connectivity myths, has found that 16% of 16-24-year-olds (Gen Z) believe that hitting their router will improve internet connectivity, which compares with just 2% of over 55s.

Some broadband ISPs that sell packages based off the hybrid fibre G.fast “ultrafast broadband” (100Mbps+) technology may be displeased to learn that Openreach will shortly be raising the cost of supplying their own modem (CPE – Customer Premises Equipment) by 20%, which in some cases may end up being passed on to consumers.

UK ISP TalkTalk Business claims to have “significantly boosted the reach” of its Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband offering over the last year, with the number of premises across the UK able to implement the solution rising by 170% between July 2020 and July 2021. Over the same period, orders from customers surged by 50%.

Customers of Sky Broadband (Comcast), particularly those in the South East of England and Wales, were hit by a significant broadband and phone (VoIP) outage last night that appeared to last for several hours. The bad news is that Sky appears to be suffering from yet more service disruption this morning and in the same area.

Customers of both Voipfone’s UK business broadband and Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) services are reporting to ISPreview.co.uk that the provider has suffered significant service disruption for the past day or two, which appears to be at least partly the result of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault against their systems.

Broadband ISP YouFibre has today announced that the first customers have gone live on their new 10Gbps capable UK Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the towns of Stockton (Durham) and Stroud (Gloucestershire), which have been built with support from network partner Netomnia.

A new study from crowd-sourced mobile benchmarking firm Opensignal has highlighted how mobile broadband users in Germany, Italy and the UK saw “significantly faster” 5G average download speeds when they were also connected to additional amounts of 4G spectrum, through older 4G technology.
