New customers of Virgin Media Business (VMO2) can, from today, now choose to take one of their new Flex offerings, which enables small businesses to move either up or down between different “VOOM Fibre” broadband package options (i.e. customers can “flex” or change their package every 30 days).

Customers of broadband ISP ZYBRE (Air Broadband) are facing more uncertainty after one of their remaining network partners, FullFibre Limited, informed related users that they’d taken the “difficult decision to no longer work” with the provider. On top of that, ZYBRE has also received a “First Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off“.

O2 UK (VMO2) has completed a unique trial in an extremely remote part of Wales, which successfully worked with Starlink’s network of ultrafast broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Wavemobile to deploy a mobile broadband capable 4G signal to the area around the South Stack Lighthouse in Holyhead, Anglesey.

Fife-based broadband ISP Gigaloch, which in 2020 began building their own Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across a few remote rural communities in Cheshire (England) and Perthshire (Scotland), has secured their first institutional financing round and are now aiming to cover up to 200,000 premises (mostly in Scotland).

A new OnePoll survey of 1,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by Green Smartphones and focused on those who reported using 5G to get online via their mobile phones, has claimed that 80% of people are satisfied with the broadband speeds and coverage offered by their 5G service (9% were dissatisfied, while 12% were undecided).

Mobile operator Vodafone and TV broadcaster ITN have today announced that the Coronation of King Charles III will be the first UK broadcast to be enabled by a public 5G Standalone (SA) network, which will harness a specific “network slice” on the operator’s trial network.

A new Opinium survey of 2,003 UK adults, which was commissioned by Uswitch.com, has found that average monthly bills for broadband ISP bundles and mobile phones have increased by £18.50 and £9.50 (per month) respectively this year. Despite that, 27% of broadband and 22% of mobile users still do not know when their contracts end.

The States of Guernsey has confirmed that their joint £37.5m project with incumbent broadband ISP Sure, which aims to build a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the entire English Channel Island of Guernsey (30,000 premises) by the end of 2026, is running ahead of schedule and has now covered 9,000 homes.

The first UK government-funded rural 4G mobile mast upgrade has today been completed in the Lockerbie area in Scotland, which forms part (£75m) of their industry-led £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) project with EE (BT), Vodafone, Three UK and O2 (Virgin Media). A further 120+ masts in Scotland are also set for upgrades.
