UK ISP Zen Internet recently announced that they’d begun making older “refurbished” versions of their EveryRoom mesh WiFi extender service and hardware (repeaters) available to broadband customers, which only cost £6 per month instead of the usual £9 per month for the new kit. Oxfordshire-based full fibre network builder and UK ISP Zzoomm has today published a summary of their annual financial results, which among other things reveals that their FTTP broadband network now covers (RFS) over 140,000 properties (2022: 38,000) and they’re home to over 12,000 (2022 3,700) customers.

Ofcom has published their annual 2023 monitoring report into Openreach’s independence from BT, which found that the commitments made by the operator “have generally proved to be successful“. UK ISP Gigaclear, which has so far deployed a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to 450,000 premises in rural areas (across 23 counties), has today announced that they’ve kicked off a new expansion phase in Yorkshire (England) that will see them add another 16,000 premises to the total.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today opened an investigation into the Quality of Service (i.e. minimum standards for repairs and new line provision) targets that they impose upon some of Openreach’s (BT) broadband and Ethernet products, which comes after the regulator found that the operator had fallen short in several areas.

The National Farmers Union recently published the results of their latest annual survey of 814 members across England and Wales, which among other things found that 36% can now access “supefast broadband” (24Mbps+) speeds (up from 20% two years ago), while 80% had access to 4G on their mobiles and 10% could get 5G.

Finnish telecoms firm Nokia has hit a new milestone in 5G based mobile broadband speeds – when setup as a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network – using millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum, which saw them successfully achieve sustained average downloads of over 2Gbps (Gigabits / sec) at a distance of 10.86km.
