Cisco-backed global delivery network Qwilt has today signed an extended partnership with Vodafone, which will see them deploy a new Content Delivery Network (CDN) to increase the quality and capacity of the operator’s streaming delivery to its mobile and broadband ISP customers across Europe (inc. UK) and Africa.

Radio astronomers have raised concerns after a new study revealed that SpaceX’s global network of Starlink broadband satellites, which form part of a mega constellation in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), were found to be leaking “unintended” electromagnetic radiation that overlaps with the protected radio frequencies used for astronomical observations.

A new “independent report” from policy institute Curia, which was commissioned by rural UK ISP Wildanet, has claimed that the rollout of gigabit-capable broadband across Devon (England) could generate £1.125 billion of new business gross value added (GVA) for the county by 2030.

Network builder and UK ISP FACTCO has today announced that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has finally started to go live in the rural Northumberland (England) town of Rothbury, which comes almost three years after the project (here) was first announced.

Telecoms analysts at global market intelligence firm ThinkCX have today released the results from their latest market share report on the UK’s broadband ISP market, which claims to show that providers “with the biggest price hikes lost the most ground to rivals“. But the shifts are fairly small, and it may not be telling the whole story.

The CEO of mobile operator Vodafone, Ahmed Essam, has indirectly warned regulators that a decision to block its attempted merger with Three UK (CK Hutchison) would result in them cutting their investment in digital infrastructure (5G broadband etc.) and being unable to deliver on the Government’s goals.

Broadband and phone giant BT Group (inc. Openreach, Plusnet and EE) has this morning announced that the operator’s current CEO, Philip Jansen, is to leave the business “at an appropriate moment over the next 12 months“. Since taking on the role in February 2019, the operator’s share price has fallen from around 230p to 122p.

An unspecified number of homes and businesses in the Worcestershire (England) town of Malvern have been hit by major disruption to their broadband ISP and phone connectivity, which has lasted for several days, after five of Openreach’s local cables were damaged. This has required extensive engineering work to fully repair.

Business focused UK ISP Cerberus Networks has recently become the latest provider to increase the pricing of their broadband packages, which has seen a number of their more consumer grade and Openreach based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) tiers going up in price by around £3-£4 per month.

Approximately 30 customers of GoFibre‘s (BorderLink) alternative full fibre broadband network in Scotland (e.g. Stonehaven) have been left to suffer internet connectivity problems for several days. The ISP has accused one of their “legacy” connectivity suppliers of being responsible – something the supplier strongly denies.

The Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council in Essex (England) is demanding that UK broadband ISP Gigaclear cough up £25,000 after the operator installed a new street cabinet to support their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network on the corner of Five Acres and Cambridge Road, without consultation.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has issued a progress update on their £210m investment (up from £180m in January 2023) to deploy a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across Wales, which reveals that they’ve now covered over 700,000 premises (up from 600k).

As expected (here), UK ISP Plusnet this week confirmed that they’re no longer providing BT Sport as a part of their existing customer home broadband packages, which means you won’t be able to access the service, including the BT Sport App or via a Sky TV set-top-box.
