The government’s Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, has revealed that – regardless of the outcome from their current consultation on a proposed internet Social Media ban for children under the age of 16 (here) – they will still “impose some form of age or functionality restrictions” even if they stop short of a full ban.

Alternative broadband provider Airband, which has built both a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) based network to cover rural parts of the Midlands, Cheshire, Oxfordshire, South West England and North Wales, has announced that the company’s recently appointed CEO, Kashif Rahman, has today stepped down from the role.

The Godshill Parish Council (GPC) in the New Forest National Park of Hampshire (England) has revealed that UK ISP Wessex Internet has “taken the decision to cancel the planned build” of a new gigabit-capable broadband network in the rural area, although there’s some confusion over the reason for this move.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have charged two men – one aged 45 and the other aged 46 – with committing a series of arson attacks on 5G mobile network masts, occurring predominantly in the west Belfast area between 2023 and 2025.

Wireless infrastructure provider Freshwave has today announced that they’ve delivered an enhanced all-operator indoor 4G mobile broadband connectivity networ,k via their Omni Network, to Leeds Bradford Airport’s refurbished terminal and newly opened extension (available to EE, O2 and Vodafone / Three UK).

Some 170 people living on remote rural Rathlin Island (Northern Ireland), which has no access to an on-site GP and can only be reached via a very weather-dependant ferry, look set to be given access to “high-speed [internet] connectivity” via a landmark project called RathlinConnex – backed by Excelerate Technology, Eutelsat (OneWeb satellites) and Livewire Digital.

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone has joined with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) to successfully complete a set of trials using the NPLTime® service, which is a new terrestrial, fibre optic-based alternative to satellite-based GPS timing signals to help keep the UK’s critical digital and 5G / 6G mobile network infrastructure resilient and secure.

Digital infrastructure firm Boldyn Networks has, perhaps unsurprisingly, today been selected to deliver 4G mobile network (mobile broadband) infrastructure to enable the Emergency Services Network (ESN) across the London Underground. The deal reflects a collaboration with EE (BT), Transport for London (TfL) and the UK’s Home Office.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has today announced a series of upgrades to boost the mobile broadband capacity of their 4G and 5G network (e.g. re-farming 2.1GHz spectrum) ahead of the summer. Since the start of 2026, the provider has also extended their 5G Standalone (5G+) network to cover more than 50 million people across more than 610 towns and cities.
