The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents many of the UK market’s alternative broadband networks, has this afternoon become the latest industry organisation to press the new UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, and his leadership team to “give broadband and telecoms the political attention and clear ministerial ownership they deserve“.

Remember when Nik Fox, a UK broadcast technology expert, accused Elon Musk’s popular space-based broadband ISP, Starlink (SpaceX), of hitting consumers with a “predatory … hardware trap” a couple of months ago (here)? The satellite provider has since failed to respond to a related legal claim and is now facing a High Court Writ of Control, which could result in direct asset seizure.

Ofcom has this morning published their latest Q1 2026 study of quarterly UK consumer telecoms and TV complaints, which reports that TalkTalk attracted the most complaints from customers for fixed broadband services, while Sky Mobile came top of the naughty table for Mobile services and EE did the same for Pay TV. But complaint volumes have fallen to their lowest ever level.

BT Group -Sign-on-Office-Window-2025

Telecoms giant BT Group just published a short trading update to the end June 2026, which reveals that Openreach lost a total of 192,000 broadband lines to rivals over the past quarter (improved from -203k last quarter). But their “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage grew to 23.4 million premises (up from 22.92m) and EE’s 5G+ mobile coverage reached 77% of the UK population.

After a few days of conflicting messaging, the Government in Westminster did yesterday confirm that responsibility for all things broadband and mobile related – this includes programmes covered by the Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency and related aspects – has been shifted back to a re-named Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). But now the ‘D’ stands for Digital (I guess.. DDCMS?).

A new study from UK network analyst firm Streetwave, which recently used bin lorries to map the coverage and performance of 4G and 5G mobile (broadband) networks across Northern Ireland, has questioned the accuracy of Ofcom’s mobile coverage data after finding a big difference between the regulator’s figures and those of their own research.

Rural connectivity provider Wavemobile, which specialises in deploying both private and public 4G and 5G mobile (mobile broadband) network services to rural communities and specific locations (inc. indoors), has revealed that their network recently had its five millionth unique connected device (this occurred two weeks ago).
