The tit for tat advertising war appears to be continuing after a complaint by Sky Broadband (BSkyB) successfully resulted in the banning of another national press advert for BT’s Broadband services, which boldly said “Official. BT Broadband offers better overall performance than Sky and TalkTalk“.

The £40 million Better Broadband to Suffolk project, which is working to make BT’s superfast “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network available to more than 85% of local homes and businesses by the end of 2015, has joined other regions in seeking fresh Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) funding to reach more premises.

The High Court of Justice in London has ruled that BT infringes upon one of ASSIA’s patents for DSL management technologies, which the telecoms operator allegedly uses as part of their national FTTC (VDSL) based Next Generation Access (NGA) network deployment.

Internet and phone provider PlusNet, which is a semi-independent sibling of BT, has appointed Andy Baker (Aged 41) to be its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Andy replaces the ISPs current CEO, Jamie Ford, whom is leaving to pursue a role as the Managing Director of IT Services at BT Business.

The Snaresbrook Crown Court has sentenced a corrupt former BT employee and members of a criminal gang to a total of over 32 years in jail after they were found to have colluded over the theft and damage of vital copper broadband and phone cable, which cost the telecoms operator a total of £279,635.00.

The Labour Party has proposed a new multipoint point plan that it believes could help to cut the cost of consumer phone and calling bills across the United Kingdom, which includes a pledge to force BT and other operators into cutting the cost of line rental. But some of the measures are already expected.

New customers who sign-up to a broadband bundle from BT, Virgin Media or TalkTalk are for the next week or two being offered a variety of special account credits or voucher cards with their orders, some of which are worth up to £100 and stack with existing discounts.

The boss of broadband ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP), Adrian Kennard, says that close cooperation with a team from BT and Huawei has enabled them to identify and replicate an earlier reported fault (here) that caused some superfast broadband FTTC (VDSL) modems from BTOpenreach to break Virtual Private Network (VPN) services.

BTOpenreach has announced that its new and cheaper Fibre-to-the-Cabinet / VDSL self-install (PCP-Only) service, which allows consumers to install an up to 80Mbps FTTC superfast broadband line without needing an engineer to enter their homes, will finally become available to UK ISPs and their subscribers from 31st December 2013.

Ofcom’s on-going review into the United Kingdom’s fixed telecoms market took a new turn today after ISPs Sky Broadband and TalkTalk accused BT of using “accounting tricks” to make the price of UK unbundled (LLU) Internet and phone lines more expensive for rival ISPs, which usually gets passed onto consumers.

The £14.57m CSW Broadband partnership of 8 local authorities, which aims to ensure that BT’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network is made available to 92% of Coventry, 96% of Solihull and 91% of Warwickshire in England (overall 91% will get speeds of 24Mbps+) by spring 2016, has been expanded by +6,480 additional premises.

A time consuming Freedom of Information (FoI) request conducted by Richard Brown has successfully secured a redacted version of the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) supported ‘Next Generation Broadband’ roll-out contract for Wales, which was agreed between BT and the Welsh Government and contains a lot of interesting details about service speed.

Mobile operator O2 UK (Telefonica), which last month announced that their unbundled (LLU) wholesale fixed line broadband platform (formerly BE Wholesale) would be closed down at the end of February 2014 (here), has now confirmed that the remaining business services will also be switched to BT.
