Openreach (BT) has today given 2 years of advanced notice for a “pricing special offer” on their wholesale Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL2) and G.fast based hybrid fibre broadband products for UK ISPs (including SOGEA and SOGfast), which once implemented will cover the period from 21st August 2023 to 31st January 2024.

Openreach (BT) might have shelved the use of hybrid fibre G.fast (ITU G.9701) broadband technology in the UK, but the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has continued to develop a sequel to that technology called MGfast (G.9711) and it will soon become more widely available, with speeds of up to 8Gbps being promised.

New customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband, specifically those who take out one of their “Superfast” (FTTC) or “Ultrafast” (FTTP or G.fast) packages, are now being offered the optional WiFi Guarantee to use, free for the first three months of service (rising to £5 per month thereafter).

UK ISP BT has today launched a range of discounts for new customers, which among other things knocks their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast and gigabit speed home broadband packages down to some of the cheapest monthly prices that they’ve ever offered. The setup fee is also now free.

Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone has today enhanced their existing range of home fixed line “Pro Broadband” (FTTC / FTTP) packages by integrating Amazon’s Alexa AI personal voice assistant into their bundled “Super Wi-Fi Plus” (mesh network) booster device, which has also been upgraded to support Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).

Shropshire-based UK ISP Aquiss has today reduced their Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) based business broadband package prices by up to 25%, which means that prices now start from £21 +vat per month for a 35Mbps (median average speed) broadband-only service excluding line rental, or £35 with a phone line.

UK ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) has informed all customers of their broadband service that, from 1st August 2021, they intend to significantly boost their monthly data allowances at no additional cost. On top of that, the extra cost for adding an Openreach based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) line to your package will fall from £15 to £10 per month.

The BT Group has today reported their latest Q1 2021/22 results, which among other things reports that Openreach’s 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network now covers 5.16 million UK premises (up from 4.6m last quarter) and 860,000 of BT’s retail ISP customers have taken the service.

New customers of UK ISP TalkTalk might like to know that the provider has teamed-up with Amazon to offer its eero 6 and eero Pro 6 mesh Wi-Fi systems, which will be given to those taking out one of their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based “Future Fibre” home broadband packages.

The latest quarterly results (financial Q1 FY22) from UK ISP and mobile operator Vodafone has today been published, which reveals that their fixed broadband base added another +29,000 customers (vs +35k in the previous quarter) to make for a total base of 940,000. But their mobile base declined again to 16,994,000.

Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has made a new ‘Fibre Plus‘ add-on available to customers taking out one of their various “fibre broadband” (FTTC and G.fast) packages, which from an extra £3 per month bundles in their “SuperSafe” F-Secure internet security boost, Fixed Price Plus, an Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker and Smart Plug.

The state aid supported Superfast Staffordshire project, which is working with Openreach (BT) to extend the local coverage of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) services, has today announced the completion of its contract. As a result of the rollout more than 97% of local homes and businesses can now order such speeds from an ISP.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has confirmed that they’re investigating budget broadband provider TalkTalk after the ISP announced a price hike earlier this year (here), which somewhat controversially also hit some customers who had previously signed-up under the promise of “no mid-contract price rises“.

ISP Vodafone UK has today partnered with Cisco to launch an “enterprise grade broadband and Wi-Fi solution” for small and medium-sized businesses (10 – 250 employees), which is said to feature “advanced security features” to ensure SMEs have everything required to stay connected, secure and in control. But it’s only FTTC.

UK ISP BT has now made their new low cost “Home Essentials” social tariff available to those on Universal Credit and other means-tested benefits, which gives eligible customers an unlimited 36Mbps (10Mbps up) “fibre broadband” (FTTC / FTTP) service – plus 700 minutes of included phone calls – for £15 a month.
