I recently moved to BT from Zen, over the past week my broadband access has been around one tenth the speed I was getting from zen. There is no cooling off period ( I thought you had 14 days) so I am forced to buy my way out of the contact (around £500) as the service I am getting is useless and I do need broadband. You also can't speak to a native English speaking person as the call centre is in Indian, I found them generally difficult to understand and they seem to be answering different questions to the ones I am asking. MY advice is avoiding BT at all cost because once you have signed up your stuck with a poor service unless you buy yourself out.

From what i have read other people say about BT. They talk about how they get a slow speed after using P2P networks the reason for this is because they are really heavy uses and BT restricts there bandwidth so that it doesn't other BT uses.

My own experience is that they have been great from the start years ago before wireless routes we got a free router with a USB and Ethernet which was unusally at that time

Then when wireless started becoming the norm they sent us another free  router with wireless. Then most recently they have sent us a free hub and a free hub phone.i will say that that getting the free routes tied us into another 12 month contract but as we have stayed with them so long not been a problem.

Only have 2 problem in the years we have had. the first was fixed that day the second was the next day.

some mention the price but you do get alot more than some others off like 500 free wifi mintues at hotspots and with the bt home hub free calls over the internet and really cheap call to over seas

Without a doubt the worst ISP I\\\'ve ever had the misfortune of doing business with. They lock you into a 1 year contract wherever possible which makes leaving them an expensive operation and believe me, you\\\'ll want to leave them before a years up! If you should dare to actually use your Internet and download too much data your connection will be capped at all peak times and weekends to 0.5MB even on their most expensive \\\"unlimited\\\" option 3. The only thing worse then the awful speeds is the customer service, their helpline is run by people who can barely speak English and have no idea what they\\\'re talking about.

Avoid.

Title: 50GB FUP
Speed was ok with BT (3-4Mbps with 6Mbps sync), but:
1) their (pricey) \\\"Unlimited\\\" product has a 50GB FUP
2) there is no \\\"off-peak\\\" metering period
3) They throttle you without telling you
4) They can\\\'t tell you how to get the throttling lifted, other than \\\"we need to see a reduction in usage\\\"
5) When I called for a MAC code, they tried to give me the impression that I would have the same FUP problem with any ISP, because the limits are \"applied at the exchange\". Only after questioning would they admit that that is just how BT does the metering for their own products. It really seemed as if they were trying to mislead.

I\'ve been called round to fix numerous problems by BT Broadband customers.

It\'s a joke! Really!

IMHO their network engineers are just not competent. Everytime it\'s the same...

- The router is configured fine.
- The initial connection to ADSL works.
- The PPP negotiation fails (so nothing works).

You pay for a long call to india where a guy first tells you to contact the router vendor, then does a load of line tests, eventually admits it\'s their problem and gives you some utter rubbish excuse (congestion seems to be a favourite of theirs).

I\'ve been helping a guy who has NO internet connection for over a week now.

I\\\'ve been with BT for about 3 years now, last year has been on the \\\"up tp 8mb\\\" service. While it\\\'s rare for it to go down these days the speeds leave a lot to be desired. The highest i\\\'ve seen is about 7mb which is acceptable, what isn\\\'t though is the fact it often drops to just over 1mb, not good enough at all. Right now it\\\'s 10pm and it\\\'s down to 1.5mb.

Customer care gets 1, and that\\\'s only because it won\\\'t let me select zero. The 4 times i\\\'ve used it it has been as useful as marmalade as a piles cure. When will they learn, Indian call centres do not work! The langauge barrier just adds to the frustration.

I have tryed several other ISP\'s, Orange, AOL, Tiscali, Virgin Media & Eclips. BT have been the best provider i have ever had. They told me i would get 6.5mbps and i get between 6-6.5mbps at all times. I have had to phone customer support on two occasions. one when my computer refused to connect (which turned out to be a dodgy network card) the other was when i couldnt remember my login details for BT Openzone. Both times i was speaking to english native speakers. I dont believe they were based in the UK but i have no problem with that.
I have Option 2 and i do now have BT Vision.

I WOULD RECOMEND BT

Been with Tiscali and went through Hell. Decided to \"come back to BT\" and have had a brilliant service ever since. Have had my BT Home Hub overheat, so after an email, they arranged a replacement in one evening! As well as that, free phone support is offered if a request is started by email and proper internet security for your PC as well as a very, very reliable connection. It may not be the cheapest, but it is the best value. Always come back the originals!
