iPass has again extended its broadband wireless hotspot coverage around Europe thanks to a new agreement with Wi-Fi operator The Cloud. The deal means that iPass will gain access to more than 6,000 new hotspots for its Global Broadband Roaming network:
The partnership will make The Cloud's network available to more than 800,000 active quarterly worldwide iPass users at key business venues in the UK, Germany and Sweden, and urban hotzones in the UK's largest city centres.
The Cloud's wireless network covers key business venues in Europe including all the major UK airports as well as hotel chains, conference centres, train stations, coffee bars and urban zones such as the Canary Wharf business district in London. Nine UK city centre hotzones, including Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh, will also go live in the coming months, plus The Cloud's City of London "Square Mile Network" in late 2006.
iPass expects to activate The Cloud's network by the middle of April, At this time, the iPass network is expected to include over 50,000 wireless hotspots and venues around the world. As part of the integration process, Wi-Fi hotspots and urban hotzones in The Cloud's network have been going through the rigorous iPass Enterprise Ready certification program. The program works to ensure interoperability with common policy and security tools that business customers use.
