Geo, a dedicated fibre networking company (not unlike i3 Group [H2O]), has reached a landmark in the expansion of its national fibre network. Some 2,500km of fibred duct is now available throughout the UK offering businesses, based from Glasgow in the north to Maidstone in the south, the chance to access super-fast broadband services.
Geo's national infrastructure runs alongside the UK gas pipeline. Meanwhile in London, its network runs deep underground in the city's sewers. Geo’s National Network claims to have not suffered any cable cuts since 2006 and has achieved 99.9999% availability in the year to date. Similarly, Geo’s Metro (London) Network has not been affected by any cuts since 2007.
Chris Smedley, Chief Executive of Geo, said: “Simply put, we have the most modern dark fibre technology to carry the largest amounts of data as cost effectively as possible. Furthermore, our FibreSpeed partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government has shown that Geo has the necessary skills to ensure the delivery and operation of the open access optical fibre networks demanded by the new generation of ultra-fast broadband services.”
Geo is perhaps best known for its work with the Welsh Assembly Government, on whose behalf it built the FibreSpeed network bringing high speed communications to North Wales. The business was originally started to help build and support mobile operator Three (3) , the UK's first 3G Mobile Broadband provider.
