The FTTH Council Europe, which campaigns for a future enabled by 100Mbps+ capable Fibre to the Home (FTTH) based fibre optic internet connections, has called on the EU not to shrink its proposed €9.2bn (£7.44bn) commitment to boosting broadband connectivity via the pan-European Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Calix, a supplier of communications equipment, has today announced that its E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) will be used by a new £40m housing project in Derwenthorpe (Yorkshire, UK) to help supply over 540 homes with fibre optic (FTTP) broadband ISP speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (1Gbps).

The Welsh Government has today announced a further £20m to help the existing investment of £425m deliver faster broadband ISP services, which will initially see 96% of homes and businesses in Wales being given access to download speeds of up to 80Mbps (FTTC) by the end of 2015.
